Many of you probably organize your gardens in ways that make sense both for yourself and for the needs of your garden. You could take it a step further and create unique themed gardens. A simple Google search of “garden themes” will give you a bunch of ideas to try. Here are a few that we found particularly interesting.

Potpourri garden
If you love to walk out into your garden and become overcome by the beautiful smell of flowers, this idea is definitely for you. You will enjoy the smell of these flowers as they grow and when you prune them for other uses. In this themed garden, you want to include Artemisias, Basils, Bay, Calendula, Columbine, Coriander, Geranium (scented), Heatsease, Hyssop, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Lemon Verbena, Marjoram, Mints, Mullein, Oreganos, Rose, Salvias, Tansy, Valerian and Violet.

Create an Asian Healing Garden in your backyard for the perfect relaxation spot.

Asian healing garden
Everyone can use a nice serene place to unwind after a long day. Creating an Asian Healing Garden could be the perfect fit. Create an enclosed private space using bamboo screens and climbing vines. Don’t forget to add a soothing water feature (from Edward’s Garden Center of course). You can add a stone bench, pebbles and even sand. Plant things like ashwagandha, chinaberry, Chinese foxglove, mugwort, ginkgo biloba, angelica, plantain,  skullcap, mentha, motherwort,  rhubarb,  red sage, bamboo, codonopsis, wolfberry, burnet, licorice root, anise hyssop,  honeysuckle flowers, rosa, chrysanthemum, forsythia, ephedra and flowering quince.

Scratch & Sniff Children’s Garden
Make gardening fun for everyone in the family can be easy. Why not create a scratch and sniff garden with plants that have scented leaves. Scented leaves come in a range of shapes, patterns and colors; with some varying from pale to dark green in color and many have fascinating textures for kids to explore – leaves can be furry, woolly, silky, smooth and even sticky! The scent becomes most prominent by bruising or gently rubbing the leaves – the tiny hairs on the leaves house glands that contain tiny drops of oil that are then released.
