This season at the Garden Center definitely will not disappoint. We are delighted to tell you about the latest additions and we hope you stop in to enjoy them!

The Concession Stand-April 15
It has been a goal of ours to provide some form of snacks for our Garden Center visitors. We love our occasional visits from everyone’s favorite food trucks, but we wanted to offer something more permanent. That goal has finally been realized with the addition of our concession stand.

The concession stand will offer tasty treats such as hotdogs, popcorn, nachos, ice cream, slushies, coffee, soda, water, lemonade and iced tea. Food offerings will also change seasonally.

The concession stand will be open on weekends throughout the spring, summer and fall,

Thanks for a Great Season!

As 2016 comes to a close,  we want to take a minute to thank all of our wonderful customers and loyal followers for making this a fantastic season at Edward’s Garden Center.

We had many firsts this year. From our first ever Kiddieland Corn Maze to our new Holiday Topiary seminars, we had a blast seeing all of our regular customers and seeing many fresh faces. Our events keep getting bigger and more exciting each and every year. We love to introduce and host fun family oriented events for our customers. Next year, our Kiddieland Corn Maze will be back and better than this year. We are also planning some new seminars aimed directly at kids. Keep an eye on our website for more info.

Along with many firsts, we also continued to give the Garden Center a new look. Our “Home of Gnomes” continued to grow and take on a whimsical look with the silly monkeys hanging from their tree houses and tree branches.  At the very end of the season, we also added another green house. Not only will we be able to house more gorgeous flowers and plants to sell, but also hold more events.

goats3Another exciting part of our season was the addition of many pets to Edward’s Garden Center. It seems like forever ago, but early this past spring we adopted three baby goats and held a contest to name them. Our Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup have since grown and are definitely fan favorites around here. They are always “kidding around” with the guests 😉 We also adopted several new rabbits and some new tortoises.

2016 was a really fantastic year at Edward’s Garden Center. We truly thank all of you who supported us by coming to our events, visiting our animals, purchasing our plants and stopping in to say hello. We can’t wait to see you all again next year. Please keep a close watch on the Facebook page for news and contests! See you in 2017.

Looking Forward to Fall at Edward’s Garden Center

The kids are on their way back to school this week and that means, sadly summer is coming to an end. Don’t fret though, because fall in Northeast PA is an awesome season and Edward’s Garden Center is fully prepared to help you enjoy everything fall has to offer.

Our staff has been extra busy preparing for fall the past few weeks. We’ve been selling off summer plants and moving in fall favorites. Our designers like Diane and Amy have been creating custom fall and Halloween decorations. Best of all, we have been busy planning for our month long Halloween celebration!

Everyone loves mums! And we are well stocked for the beginning of fall. Yellow, white, red, orange and more. Stop by and pick yours up today.

Is there anything that can help transition to a new season better than some new decor? It definitely does the trick around the Garden Center. Ask our staff to make a custom creation just for your home or garden.

As some of you may know, we put a lot of planning in to our events because we want them to be fun for the whole family. We have two events coming up that will help you celebrate fall and Halloween. We hope to see you there.

On September 24 and 25, we will hold our annual Fall Festival. We will have pony rides, face painting, music, snacks, a pet costume parade, visits from Blue Chip Animal Refuge and much more.

Beginning October 8, each weekend throughout October, we will hold a Halloween Celebration. The whole Garden Center will be transformed into a Halloween land. We will have a haunted maze, costume contests and a less scary area for the little ones. The staff is super excited to bring this month long event to our customers!

Garden Center News and Previews

Photo Aug 02, 2 19 41 PM

Eric, Diane and the rest of our staff are hard at work expanding our Home of Gnomes area.

Many Garden Centers are quiet and slow during these hot July and August days. Not Edward’s! We are busy planning for the future 🙂 Because you readers are our loyal blog and Facebook followers, we are going to let you in on a few little-known upcoming events and changes. Keep reading for the scoop.

Expanding the Home of Gnomes (Kids Area)
We always planned for our Home of Gnomes to be much bigger and more kid friendly. Last fall when it opened, we honestly got too busy with customers and other projects to finish working on our beloved kids area. Now that the spring rush has calmed down, we are expanding the Home of Gnomes. We are adding more decorations, lights and even a tree house! All of these projects will be completed before the Fall Festival this year. Check our Facebook page to keep an eye on our progress.

Things that Go Bump in the Night
Halloween is a HUGEly popular holiday in NEPA. Edward’s Garden Center wants to get in on the fun! This year we will have a huge Halloween Festival on the weekends in October. There will be decorations, food trucks, costumes, a maze and perhaps some ghoulish face painting. It will be great fun for the whole family and we are super excited to share this with you.

Make Your Own Garden Seminars August 7 & 14
Our most fun hands-on seminars are coming up this Sunday and next Sunday. On Sunday August 7, the Garden Center will hold a Make Your Own Air Plant Display workshop. For a $20 fee, you can make an air plant display to take home and learn all about air plants.

On August 14, our super popular Fairy, Gnome and Miniature Garden workshop with Diane will take place. Last year, the group that participate had a blast digging in the dirt and creating their own miniature gardens to take home. For $20 you can make a gorgeous display in a container we provide or you can be creative and bring something from home.

There are spots left for both of these hands-on workshops. Make sure to call and save your spots before they fill up! 570-287-4329 ext 1.

Other Miscellaneous News
In just about three to four weeks our shipment of Mums will be arriving! This is definitely a favorite time of year for us and we know many of you wait for this arrival too. Also, be on the look out for another Facebook contest sometime in August. And as always, stop by the Garden Center to visit with the animals, chat with our staff and see all of the items we get in new week after week.

Spend Your Memorial Weekend in the Garden

Memorial Day weekend is the official kick off of planting season in Northeast PA. We know many of you (and us) have already started planting annuals, pulling weeds and maybe buying vegetable plants.

With the weather being finicky up until this week, planting early was actually a little risky. We are sure you or someone you know was outside rushing around last week putting buckets or bags over their plants because of the sudden cold spell.

It appears spring/summer has worked its way into our area so you should be okay to start filling up your vegetable gardens and hanging baskets.

Here are some of ideas of what to start with on this hot, humid Memorial Day weekend.

Edward's Garden Center - Grow Sunflowers Memorial Weekend

Photo cred: fusianliving.com

Start a new tradition: planting sunflower seeds
These fun, sunny plants are easy to grow and are the perfect way to kick off the growing season. Plant seeds in warm soil about 1 to 2 inches deep and keep the soil moist until the seeds sprout. Once the plants get growing, water thoroughly and as needed. Established plants are drought tolerant though you’ll get the best eating seeds when properly watered. The best part about growing sunflowers is the beauty they will bring to your garden.

Plant your vegetables
It’s officially time to start those tomato plants. Though you may have had some growing in your greenhouse or home for weeks, it’s time to move those plants outside for optimal harvest. It’s also a great time to start a vegetable container garden. If you are not sure how to start a vegetable container garden, sign up for our hands-on seminar, on June 5 at 11 am.

Edge out your gardens and boundaries
The grass has been growing like crazy thanks to the wet week a few weeks ago and the heat this week. It’s probably time to redefine the edges around your gardens. Using a spade or a half-moon edger could be a lot of work but the end result will be beautiful.

Visit your favorite Garden Center!
Many people’s favor thing to do on Memorial Day weekend is shop for all the annuals and perennials they will add to their gardens this year. Visit Edward’s Garden Center this weekend. We are fully stocked with annuals, perennials, mulch, fertilizer and pond supplies. Don’t forget to bring the kids to enjoy all our animals.

Springtime at Edward’s Garden Center

There is some beautiful scenery at Edward’s Garden Center right now. Even though the weather has been unpredictable lately, spring is in full bloom. The sites are so pretty and colorful we had to take some pictures to share.

All of the colorful flowers are sure to brighten anyone’s day… even on one of those sad days when it snows and hails in May, like it did today!

We also have another surprise in the very last picture of the collage…. a new baby bunny! This little one is so cute and so young we don’t even know if we have a boy or girl. Stop by and see our new comer this week!
